It is a very cool weekend in August. And we had our holly tree cut down. Very sad. It was all but dead and the few green leaves left were gradually turning brown.
I have been busy this summer with our gardening chores among other things. Pictured are some of our vegetables coming along. Beanpoles, tardy tomatoes, and the rest - squash, okra, and cucumber.

It has been an unusually wet summer with a serious flood on the fourth of August when we had six inches of rain in an hour and a half. The roaring stream our street became was astonishing. Nature continues to send us national disasters. But the vegetables seem fairly happy if our holly tree was not.

It's too bad about the holly tree but I guess all living things must decline and die. We always find that hard to remember because we become fond of individuals.

Odd that your cool weather is balanced by our super-hot weather recently, just the reverse of what you would think. We didn't have any bother this weekend from hurricane Bill here on the north shore but there were large and tumultuous waves on the south shore.
